Saturday was one of the busiest days at Remuera for some time. It was the official opening of the new covered driving range, and we were honoured to have the Prime Minister, John Key, carrying out this task.
The weather was perfect and our Club Captain, Rex Howe welcomed John Key to the club highlighting some of our recent achievements. After a short speech the "blue" ribbon was cut and John Key teed off, not before he left a mark on the timber frame with his driver (see our Facebook page). He very graciously signed the dent and then joined Rex, Graham Arnold (President) and John Sims (Golf Captain) on the first tee.
The ANZ Golf Show (Mark Leishman) were also at the club for the day and conducted a short interview on the first tee. Hopefully they also recorded the PM's birdie 2 on the 3rd hole!! Unfortunately his duties meant that he finished his golf on the 9th. It was a pleasure to play with the Prime Minister and he certainly enjoyed his time with us.
For the club members it was the 2nd round of the Booth Cup qualifying and the 3 players going forward to the 36-hole final at the end of the year are:
James Ashwin (70) - Gross
John Molyneux and Bruce Renshaw (68) - Nett.
Congratulations guys, this is one of the most prestigous competitions within the club, and one of the hardest finals to qualify for.
Craig Richards added to our celebrations by holing out on the par 3 11th with a Rescue 3 club for a hole in one. Great effort, Craig and a perfect day to make the perfect shot.
Finally we can also celebrate the inclusion of 2 of our players in the Auckland team to play North Harbour next Sunday. Matthew Cormack (Senior) and Manaaki McColl (Under 16) will play in this annual fixture. Best of luck to you both!
Next weekend sees the qualifying round for the Winter Cup which will be followed by 4 weeks of match play.
