Saturday saw the final of the Summer Cup between Tony Verner and Peter McCormack.  This was held at the same time as the Scottish Cup, our annual celebration of all things Scottish.

Peter McCormack was in the middle of a "purple-patch" having just won the Wainui Masters Pro Am with Matthew Millar, who won the Professional tournament.  However Tony didn't seem to be fazed and jumped out to an early lead.  Peter fought back and took the match to the final holes before being beaten 2/1.  Congratulations, Tony.

The Summer Cup was graced with a good-sized field of nearly 90 players.  Scoring on a very hot and humid day proved difficult off the blue tees.  We had become used to needing mid-40pts to win the scramble but the Summer Cup was won with 39pts on a countback.  Simon Wall was the winner just from Iain Craig.  Iain has generously sponsored the event each year and provided a bottle of single malt whisky to the winner - this year he almost got it back.  Well done, Simon.

The next events for our weekend men are the Booth Cup on February 10th (enter on the day when printing your scorecard); followed by 3 weeks of our 54-Hole Stroke Play Championships - February 17, 24 and March 3.  The Stroke Play will also be our qualifying rounds for the Match Play Championships which follow on immediately.  Entry is on our web site - www.remueragolfclub.com under the Membership tab.
