An Ambrose Competition has been scheduled on Wednesday 15th August (to replace the cancelled June comp).

A registration form is on the notice board so enter a team of 4 or just put your name down and we’ll make sure you get a tee time. $2.00 entry fee payable at the pro-shop on the day.

We also have an Ambrose game scheduled for Wednesday the 29th of August and the registration form for this is also on the notice board.

If you can’t make it up to the club to register then you can email your entry to sabra@cosmouv.co.nz

COURSE MANAGEMENT – CLEAN AND PLACE

Make the most of the clean and place that is in play at the moment. You currently have one club length so if you need to; use your longest club (driver) to take full advantage. You can clean and place from the rough to the fairway but if you are on the fringe of the green you cannot place to the green.

AMBROSE COMPETITION

With Ambrose each player hits off the tee, the best shot is selected and all other players pick up their ball and place it, within one hand span, alongside the best ball. Each person then hits a second shot from the same spot. The best shot is again selected. This continues until the ball is in the hole. On the putting green the best ball is marked and the other balls are played from this position.

One score is thus recorded on each hole. This is the sum of the best shots used throughout the hole.

In this format you would expect your gross score to be under or very close to the par of the course. This is because the best shot from the team is chosen for each shot. In other words your group has four chances to hit a good shot. It certainly takes the pressure off the less skilled golfers and is a good team building format.
