Last Saturday we welcomed the start of the 2012 golf season. The traditional mixed opening day foursomes competition was organised by John Reeves and his new Mixed Match Committee of Joan Reeves & Maria Balan.
The field of 140 players - including our Patron, Peter Worth and his wife Natalie; Life Member Trevan Smith and Phil Lawson, up from Mt Maunganui, set off at 9am. The course was in superb condition for the start of our new season but scoring is never easy in this format and the greens were very slick in preparation for the Bissett Shield round the following day.
The competition was won by Lawrence Schaffler and Sue Keppel with 44 points. They were 3 clear of Tony Banks & Daphne McKenzie (41 pts), with John Barber and Andrea Gardner on 36 pts in 3rd place.
In the Men's event Geoff Hope and Gordon Shute had 39 pts; while Sally Goldstone and Marion Timpany took out the Women's competition with 29 pts.
The next big Mixed event is scheduled for Sunday March 4th - Patron's Day & Dempsey Plate Qualifying. This will be a 1230pm shot gun start. The entry sheets will be posted in the 19th in the next week or so.
