We had a great week end although I feel we were shafted by the new rules for the semis. It is always fairer to have a play off when there is a tie ( we lost because Pakuranga beat us in the round robin). I think my point is even more relevant when it is considered that Pakuranga beat us at their home track in the round robin. Nevertheless it was a huge achievement to make the semis when it is considered we only won promotion to Captains last year. Well done and lets start thinking about what we can do for next year.

Despite my comment about home advantage the Presidents had a great win over Pakuranga at Pakuranga. 5 – 3. It was an extremely close match with never more than a I up or I down in it until the last few holes. After nine holes we were 3 – 5 down but Roscoe and Matty turned their downs to wins. A great effort. Standing at our 16th green, the 7th ( we teed off at 10) Bakes and I had the pleasure of seeing Dell, then Roscoe and Cam shake hands on the 17th green. 3 up. Then we watch as Chris takes 2 putts to win 3 and 2 on the 7th. 4 in the bag. We have Jimbo and Matty still on the course playing the short par 6th. I roar up in the cart and talk to Rob and Kathy who tell me that Matty has a tricky 4 footer across the slope to go dormie 3 up. Jimbo has to make his to stay in the match.

Jimbo…back of the hole. Matty a little right down hill slider….Its in the hole.

Rob, Kathy and I know we have won at least 4 ½ 3 ½ even if Matty loses the next 3 holes. I give Matty a big man hug and tell him we have won and say enjoy the next holes. I tell Jimbo to pull finger as we need him.

I then tear back to the RGC group waiting by the 7th green. As I get there I do the classic fist pump and yell we have won. The tension gone we watch as Matty closes out with a win 3 and 2. Unfortunately Jimbo was on the other side of the ledger.

It was a tense day and I thought the camradarie and competiveness was excellent. Pakuranga were a good team to play against and there was a good spirit.

We now come to the main event - this Sunday vs The Grange at Remuera in the Final!
