Notes to Club members from the Golf & Match Committee.

From time to time the Match Committee is required to rule on certain aspects of individual Club Competitions, Rules of Golf, Local Rules, handicapping matters and disputes between players.

While we are a Club first and foremost, it is important to remember that we play golf under a set of Rules which are in place, to ensure that matches and competitions are played fairly, no player has an unfair advantage over other players, and that acceptable scores are posted for handicapping.

For the benefit of members we set out some details of areas that have been causing concern. Some of these include changes made to the Rules of Golf introduced on 1 January 2019.

1. SCORECARDS

A player’s scorecard is to be kept on their scorecard by their marker, so cards need to be exchanged at the start of the round.

The marker is responsible for entering the player’s score on the player’s scorecard and at the end of the round certifying the hole scores.

In a pairs competition the marker may not be the player’s partner.

(Rule of Golf 3.3b.for stroke play, condition also applies for match play.

Breach of Rule – disqualification)

2. SCORECARDS AND ENTERING SCORES ON DOTGOLF

Scores for all stroke play and handicap match play competitions count for handicapping and must be returned.

3. HOLING OUT

In a gross or net stroke play competition, (and in scrambles) to score on a hole, a player must hole out their ball.

You may however pick up in a stableford/par/bogey/eclectic competition if you are no longer able to score.

(Rule of Golf 3.3c, Breach of Rule – disqualification)

Scores for holes not completed/holed out must be entered on Dotgolf as “Pick Up”

4. ALTERNATIVE TO STROKE AND DISTANCE FOR LOST BALL OR BALL OUT OF BOUNDS

(Optional Local Rule)

Please note we are not playing this local Rule at Remuera at this stage.

If your ball is likely to be lost (outside of a penalty area) or out of bounds play a provisional ball.

We trust Club members will understand the reasons we are reminding you of these Rules.

If the Golf & Match committee were asked to make a ruling over an issue in a match or competition we would have no choice but to adhere to these Rules of Golf in the interests of fairness to all players.
