Over the last few days we have recieved another 64mm of rain of which most was heavy. This brings our total for the month  to 384mm which is obviously well above average. This is posing more challenges with regards to maintaining the bunkers and paths on course. Every time our bunkers wash out they are contaminated by clay silt which has eroded at the same time from the base and sides of the bunkers. Thus the playability and drainage of the bunkers is proving to be less than ideal. The plan is to fix these as best we can in the interim, with a long term goal to be installing a bunker matrix in all problem bunkers. This will stop clay contaminating the sand and maintain better drainage overall.

Next week we commence with our coring and driving range renovations, which will close the course Mon 3rd - Fri 7th April, and the range will close for around 3 weeks. The coring will be particularly important this time around as we have had approximately 15000 rounds played this year to date, which is an increase of 13% on last year. The greens are in need of decompaction and aeration. We will be using a smaller tine (6mm) on the greens and 8mm on the tees. we are not hollow coring fairways at this point due to the busy playing calendar and have opted to slice and vertidrain fairways instead. Recovery from this process should be (weather permitting) a lot quicker than in previous cores.

In closing, please may we ask for assistance with the following;
  • Should you make use of a golf cart, please do not drive within 10 metres of Tees or greens unless on a designated path.
  • Please consider the safety of all greens staff whilst on course, due to increasing near misses of late. The team are all trained to keep an eye on play and aware of golf balls, but ultimately have right of way on course.
  • Please use recycling bins located around the course appropriately as lately we are separating by hand each bin. Waste and Recycled Materials are different, therefore different bins are labelled.
  • Pitch Marks do not repair themselves!!!
