Well  unfortunately, winter arrived over the weekend with a vengeance, and Remuera hosted the final round of A Pennants in most inclement weather.

Rather sloshy underfoot and surface water consistent with the conditions, the competition was played in good heart regardless. Some of the bunkers had scouring but the greens held up really well thanks to the wonderful work by our greenkeeping staff.

All things said, we managed to play the round and were delighted that we could finish the competition without rescheduling!

Remuera played Titirangi who were leading in to this final round and we hoped to stall their progress. However it was not to be. Titirangi fielded a very strong team their No 1 being Britteny Dryland playing off +3.

Our morning foursome matches were unfruitful coming in for lunch with only 1 match halved – Esther Cowper and Judy Hart. Unfortunately Helen Peters and Gail Mackenzie found it tough going and couldn’t get their noses in front. Kath Howe and Joan Reeves battled all the way to the 18^th but were undone in the greenside bunker losing 1 down.

Singles in the afternoon went out in twos earlier than planned due to cancellations from club members. Playing a plus handicapper  was a hard task for Helen Peters who did so well to take this match to the 18^th but 2 points would go to Titirangi. Esther Cowper halved her match and Judy Hart had a wonderful win against her opponent winning 6 and 5. Gail Mackenzie battled to the 16^th but her opponent proved to be too steady on the day as was the case for Kath Howe who came back from being down in her match . However that contest finished on the 17^th 2 and 1. Joan Reeves went all the way to the 18^th but lost out after giving shots  to a lower handicap opponent. All in all a hard day at the office!

The season has been a tough one but many thanks to the wonderful players who practise and continue to be available to represent our wonderful club. Many thanks to all the caddies who have helped out over the season –too many to mention.
